Burke, Cathy

Cathy is a self taught artist who lives in Ottawa Canada. She began painting with acrylics in 2018, later expanding her repertoire to include mixed media.

Cathy creates abstractions with the use of shape, colour, line and text, often incorporating organic self made collage elements to create interesting surface textures. The surface is built up, obscured and layered to convey a sense of history and imperfection. She often uses ephemera found around the house such as used envelopes, old book pages, maps and letters. These often get covered, but tiny fragments are left exposed to reveal a sense of the story that came before.
